The ISO/IEC 20000 - Service Management series, standardized and published in 2005, is the internationally recognized standard in IT (Information Technology) service management.
The 2011 version of the standard, ISO 20000-1:2011, was published on April 12, 2011 and there are very few ICT companies that have the 20000-1:2011 certificate (in Spain, less than a hundred in Summer 2012) .
Managing the effective delivery of IT services is crucial for businesses. One way to demonstrate that IT services are meeting business needs is to implement an IT Service Management System (SMS) based on the requirements of the ISO/IEC 20000 standard. Certification in this international standard allows demonstrating independently that the services offered comply with best practices.
The appearance of the ISO/IEC 20000 series has meant the first IT service management system certifiable under a globally recognized standard.
